Toyota Prius 2001 – 2008 (USA) Haynes Owners Service & Repair Manual covers all models of Toyota Prius 2001- 2008
The Toyota Prius models covered by this manual are four-door sedans. They are “hybrid” vehicles in that they are powered by a combination of a fuel-injected, transversely-mounted, internal combustion engine and two battery-powered electric motors.
The engine and electric motors drive the front wheels through an automatic transaxle/power-split device via independent driveaxles. Independent suspension, featuring McPherson struts, is used on the front of the vehicle. The rack-and-pinion steering unit is mounted behind the engine and has electric power assist. The rear suspension uses coil-over shock absorber assemblies, connected to a pressed-steel beam-type axle.
The brakes are disc at the front and drums at the rear, with power assist standard. An Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) is standard on all models.
